Pick of the Week: A Secret Revealed

Some would argue that modern-day speakeasies are even harder to find than those in the 1920s, when surreptitious establishments served alcoholic beverages beneath a veil of secrecy. You didn’t hear it from us … but an inconspicuous wooden door on the first floor of Fort Lauderdale’s Brass Tap leads to a clandestine venue inspired by the Prohibition era. The allure of the forbidden draws curious patrons to the upscale, jazzy hot spot known as “Unit B,” but only those with the secret code are granted entry.

Strictly on Thursday nights, this sultry atmosphere (the brainchild of creator Mat Baum), gets soulful with the rich vocals of Arlene Couteé and her band: The Sweet 3-Six-9 Experience. Combined with artisan cocktails handcrafted just like back in the day, the speakeasy has been born again.
