School’s Out For Summer: South Florida Day Camps

School’s out, and with no more pencils and no more books to occupy them, some parents might still be scrambling to figure out how to keep their kids motivated and entertained. Whether your camper wants to perform, create, or play ball, here are a few great local day camps worth checking out.

  • The Wick Theatre (featured image) in Boca Raton welcomes acclaimed touring company Missoula Children’s Theatre, which will present a one-week summer camp culminating in a performance of the beloved classic “Pinocchio.” Campers: Grades 1-12. Dates/hours: June 17-21; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuition: $350, includes daily lunch and two snacks (thewick.org)

 

  • The art-focused curriculum at Art Paper Scissors, Parkland’s premier art studio, allows kids’ creative juices to flow by introducing a variety of mediums and adapting projects to all comfort levels and individual needs. Campers: Ages 4-up. Dates/hours: June 10-Aug. 16; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuition: $65 a day or $285 a week; siblings $55 a day or $260 a week; full summer $2,500; snack included; lunch available for purchase.   • Energy is up, spirit is high, and coordination is practiced at Florida Super Stars’ Summer Dance Jam Camp in Pembroke Pines, which combines various forms of dance, cheerleading and baton twirling. Each session commences with a camp show. Campers: Ages 4-14. Dates/hours: Three two-week sessions (June 10-21; June 24-July 5; July 8-July 19).   • There are so many balls in the air and on the field at Positive Athletics Summer Sports Camp in Weston, where good sportsmanship is always encouraged and everyone’s a team player.
