What: The exhibit features the work of emerging photographers Anna Gibson and Sam Carfora. Gibson is a self-taught and enjoys exploring new techniques; Carfora seeks to convey beauty, truth and emotion in her work.

“Starmaker”

When: Aug. 8- Sep 8

Where: Island City Stage, 2304 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors

What: The play follows the story of actor Rock Hudson—who dreamed of stardom while a closeted, handsome sailor—and his relationship with Henry Willson, an openly gay agent who groomed Rock into a world-famous star. Henry’s ruthlessness and Rock’s star quality prove to be detrimental to the affair that develops between them.

Friday, August 9

The Gianni Bianchini Quintini

When: Aug. 9, 8 p.m.

Where: Arts Garage

What: The jazz artist will performs with his quintet at Arts Garage for the first time. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Bianchini is known for playing American classics and pushing jazz to new bounds and is considered one of the leading pianists, vocalists and organists in the contemporary jazz scene.

Saturday, August 10

Cocktails & Crowns

When: Aug. 10, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Where: Spazio, 239 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale

What: Shauna Sweeney of Harmony Floral Design walks patrons through step-by-step instructions on how to make a flower crown. Plus, enjoy a cocktail and half off appetizers. No experience necessary and all tools and supplies are included in the $45 admission fee.

Leslie Caryata

When: Aug. 10, 8 p.m.

Where: Arts Garage

What: The Cuban-born singer drew inspiration from traditional Cuban music, jazz and American funk to create the harmonious fusion that is her debut solo album, “No Pares,” which featured Afro-Latin and Caribbean influences.

Sunday, August 11

International Ballet Festival of Miami

When: Aug. 11, 5 p.m.

Where: Broward Center, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale

What: Part of the 24th annual festival, “Contemporary Performance,” features ballet starts from Italy, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Brazil who explore a mix of genres and dance styles.

Tad-Bhaaratham

When: Aug. 11, 6 p.m.

Where: Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive, Coral Springs

What: The dance production blends of time-honored techniques of classic Indian dance and modern dance. Beautiful costumes and global music enhance the performance.
