Onajide Shabaka: “Floridian Lacunae”

Where: Art and Culture Center/Hollywood, 1650 Harrison St., Hollywood

What: South Florida artist Shabaka’s exhibit shows him working in the gallery space, allowing visitors to participate in his art-making process by walking to find hidden landscapes and then make their own art.

What: The exhibit from the Colombian artist and founder of Spain’s Museo de Arte del Tolima, captures emotional moments through the exploration of religious themes blended with humanist observation.

“Art After Stonewall, 1969-1989”

When: Sept. 14-Jan. 5

Where: Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, 11200 SW Eighth St., Miami

What: Curated by artist and art historian Jonathan Weinberg, with Tyler Cann and Drew Sawyer, the exhibition organized by the Columbus Museum of Art showcases historical documents and images as well as performance, film and video art covering the two decades following the LGBTQ liberation movement 50 years ago and how it has influenced the gay rights movement in America today.

Boca Photo

When: Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Where: Boca Raton Museum of Art, 501 Plaza Real, Boca Raton

What: In these discussions and workshops, amateur and professional photographers learn about finding subjects, using new eqipment and using proper staging techniques. The free event also presents work from advanced photography students of the museum’s art school.
