- Meals for Heroes: Emergency room doctors and nurses working the night shifts at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach and the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial received a gourmet surprise, courtesy of some well-known philanthropists and a star chef. Restaurateur Shareef Malnik and his wife, actress Gabrielle Anwar (pictured above), delivered frontline workers meals prepared by Michelin-starred chef Christopher Lee. Dinners consisted of coconut milk lobster bisque; roasted beets and burrata; braised beef short ribs and vegetables; Vadouvan cauliflower steak; and flourless chocolate decadence cake. The event was underwritten by Chris Radomski, COE of La Adelita Tequila.
- Market Call by Angelo Elia: Angelo Elia the Bakery Bar in Fort Lauderdale (2104 E. Oakland Park Blvd.; 954.566.6100) has expanded into a full-blown neighborhood market. The Bakery Bar will continue to carry Italian pastries and paninis made from scratch each morning, but the added gourmet offerings include various cheeses and pastas, cherry tomatoes, whole baby clams, tuna in olive oil, fig spread and other delicacies. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Piece of the Pie: HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth) is partnering with Gulf Stream Brewing Company and Pizza Magaddino on a promotion that benefits the nonprofit’s needy children and families. For every drive-up/takeout pizza purchased at Gulf Stream Brewing (1105 NE 13th St., Fort Lauderdale), another pizza will be donated to a HANDY family. Pizzas are vacuum packed and last two weeks in the refrigerator (up to three months in the freezer); choices include cheese pizzas, pepperoni and cheese, and vegan cheese—for $10 per pie.
