Virtual Fundraisers

  • Broward Heart Walk: The 26th annual Broward Heart Walk, benefiting the American Heart Association, is still slated for May 10. But instead of the traditional 5K that last year drew more than 12,000 participants at Nova Southeastern University, Sunday’s promises to embrace social distancing—and then some—by moving online. Starting at 9 a.m., participants and teams are being encouraged to take a walk outside (while maintaining social distancing guidelines), create an at-home circuit workout—or whatever activity they can come up with to replicate the Heart Walk. Visit Facebook/AmericanHeartAssociationMiami on race day and post photos or videos.

  • Col NicoleMagnolia Luncheon: The ninth annual luncheon, hosted by United Way of Broward County’s Women United, will rely on Zoom to deliver its message of empowerment. The event, set for Wednesday, June 3, will feature a Q&A discussion with what’s being described as a “who’s who” of Broward County women. Among the participants will be Col. Nicole Malachowski (pictured left), the first female pilot on the Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Squadron, a combat veteran, and an inductee in the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Tickets to attend the virtual luncheon range from $50 to $500. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Broward County’s COVID-19 relief campaign. To attend the event or become a sponsor, visit UnitedWayBroward.org/magnolia2020; contact Macey Markowitz at 954.453.3754 or [email protected] for additional information.
