House of Hope in Fort Lauderdale hosted its first Race for Recovery, a virtual event that raised funds for its mission to help those with substance abuse and mental health programming. More than 60 participants (such as the one pictured) ran, walked, jogged, swam or biked two miles in honor of the two people that die every day in South Florida due to an overdose, raising $2,500 overall.

“Our commitment is to the men and women at House of Hope who depend on our essential services and resources they need to stay focused on their recovery,” said House of Hope CEO Sue Glasscock. “Grants such as this one will help us achieve that mission.”

Plus, this month, House of Hope announced that it received a $20,000 COVID-19 relief and recovery grant from Humana Foundation in partnership with Health Foundation of South Florida.

The Achievement Centers for Children & Families received a surprise donation of 55 new Chromebooks from a private donor and Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. The Chromebooks will be distributed to students and families in each of the organization’s programs to help them with virtual learning through the summer and the upcoming school year. Plus, staff at ACCF, which serves 900 children and families in Delray Beach, will train family members on how to use the devices.

The Humana Foundation and the Community Foundation of Broward awarded a $20,000 grant to ChildNet, an agency that protects abused, abandoned and neglected children in the community. The money will fund ChildNet’s assistance to the biological and relative families of the 3,800 foster youth and families it serves in Broward and Palm Beach counties such as housing costs, food, utilities and other emergency needs.

The Humana Foundation, in partnership with Health Foundation of South Florida, awarded a $10,000 grant to FLITE Center, a Broward facility for dependent youth to learn the skills needed for independent living. The grant will provide funding for youth and families in the Transitional Independent Living system of care and will financially assist and support them in paying for housing costs, food, utilities, and other emergency needs.

“We are so grateful for their support and for the generous grant that will assist in making a difference for the youth that rely on the resources of our community,” said Christine Frederick, CEO of FLITE Center.
