Volunteers Needed

Boca Helping Hands. With a unique holiday season around the corner, Boca Helping Hands is asking the community to donate time or money to its 2020 Thanksgiving Box Brigade program, which provides turkeys and a box filled with everything a family needs to prepare a holiday meal.

Those seeking to volunteer can host a fall food drive or fill a box with Thanksgiving dinner essentials. Boxes can be picked up at Boca Helping Hands the first week of October and returned filled by Nov. 16. Volunteers can also help give out Thanksgiving boxes to clients for drive-through distribution on Nov. 21 and 22. Finally, the public can donate $27.20 online to cover the cost of one box. United Way of Broward County. Broward County Public Schools and United Way of Broward County will partner again on the ReadingPals program. The program, held virtually, connects volunteers with children in pre-K through second grade to improve reading and comprehension skills to ensure children are reading at grade level by the end of second grade.

United Way is seeking 300 volunteers this year. Volunteers must dedicate one hour a week for 25 weeks during the school year to read to one student or a small group. An information session will be held Oct. 2, 10 a.m.-noon. For information, contact Kristen Lewis at 954.453.3742 or by email at [email protected]. Or click here.
