Be Still My Heart

Leave it to Tiffany & Co. to present distinct, elegant—and lengthy—aesthetic statements in time for Valentine’s Day. In this case, an array of Elsa Peretti creations from the luxury jeweler speak once again to the Italian designer’s emphasis on the simplicity of style, even when it’s revealed “by the Yard.”

Tiffany’s offerings for Valentine’s Day not only include a striking Open Heart gold pendant by Peretti (second from bottom, $5,200), but also a collection of Color by the Yard and Diamonds by the Yard necklaces (the pendant featured below the Open Heart design is $1,500. The four additional necklaces, top to bottom, are priced at $19,500; $10,400; $20,000; and $10,500). Tiffany describes Peretti’s legendary Diamonds by the Yard collection as combining “fine, fluid chains and bezel-set stones [in a way that] forever changed the role of diamonds in fashion.”

Peretti, 80, has spent nearly five full decades with Tiffany & Co. (she arrived in 1974). She describes her iconic designs as dictated by common sense. “For me, good line and good form are timeless.” Her designs, along with being available at Tiffany stores worldwide, are in the permanent collections at the British Museum in London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
