8 million: That’s the estimated metric tons of plastics that enter our oceans every year, according to Ocean Conservancy, the nonprofit focused on the global challenges facing our seas. The organization projects that, if plastic production/consumption continues at its current pace, there could be some 250 million metric tons of trash in the ocean within 10 years. To learn about we can do to help stem the tide and keep our oceans clean, visit the Ocean Conservancy’s Trash Free Seas page. Locally, check out the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation website; the organization is hosting educational and family events throughout March, which is Ocean Conservation Month.
