Great Staycation Escapes, Part 5

The Marker Key West Harbor Resort

Address: 200 William St., Key West

The allure: Historic Key West Harbor, only a stone’s throw from Duval Street and Mallory Square, is the backdrop for this waterfront resort. The grounds at The Marker offer a little something for everyone, including two acres of tropical landscaping, three saltwater pools, and an open-air restaurant and bar (Starboard). An air of sophisticated, Key West chic colors the 96 rooms and suites; each room features an oversized soaking tub, and a private balcony overlooking the pool, harbor or gardens. The resort, named after Mile Marker 0 (the iconic end of the road for U.S. Highway 1), sports three palm-lined pools and a state-of-the-art fitness center—and it provides free bicycle rentals for exploring downtown Key West.

Isn’t that special: Travelers that book now through December can expect discounted deals. Stay two nights and save up to 15 percent; stay three or more nights and save up to 20 percent. The Marker also invites pet owners to bring their pooch. Dogs receive a welcome bag upon arrival that has toys and treats; there’s also puppy turndown service, available treatments at Salty Paws pet spa, and a multicourse dog food menu. Best of all, the adults get to pop a bottle of Champagne.

Naples Grande Beach Resort

Address: 475 Seagate Drive, Naples

The allure: One of larger resort properties in Southwest Florida, Naples Grande boasts 474 rooms set on 23 waterfront acres. A few years ago, its spa unveiled 38 nontraditional therapies and wellness services that continue to attract travelers. Among the highlights: a saltwater float tank, a cryotherapy tank and an infrared sauna. People also walk or jog the trails of a 200-acre mangrove estuary that leads to three miles of secluded beach. The Catch of the Pelican, the resort’s signature restaurant, invites diners to go behind the scenes with its Brunch “A La Kitchen” offering, a live kitchen station experience with the chef. The Saturday and Sunday brunches include all-you-can-eat seafood and raw bar treats—and a bloody mary bar that claims more than 48,000 combinations of rims, sauces, toppings and spirits. Golf enthusiasts have access to the Rees Jones-designed course at Naples Grande Golf Club, while tennis lovers can book one of 15 championship courts (as well as private lessons).

Isn’t that special: Clients staying three nights or more (through Oct. 31) can receive savings up to 15 percent off the resort’s best flexible rate—plus $25 daily resort credit. There’s also a stay-and-play deal for Florida residents, and a Fun in the Sun package (also through Oct. 31) that promises a $75 per night credit that can be applied to food/beverage, spa, golf, tennis, gift shop, and cabanas.
