Museum of Discovery & Science Launches Voyage to the Deep Exhibit

All MODS traveling exhibits are presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, one of South Florida’s leading pediatric hospitals.

The Museum of Discovery & Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale has recently debuted a new traveling exhibit called “Voyage to the Deep – Underwater Adventures.” The exhibit is presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and was created and developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, a government entity of Australia. It will remain at MODS until May 19 and visitors can access it by purchasing admission to the Museum.

The exhibition is based on Jules Verne’s 1870 classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and it brings to life the adventures of Captain Nemo, his fantastical Nautilus submarine, and the mythical world he inhabited. At the center of this fantasy world is a giant Nautilus that allows guests to climb aboard and discover the inner workings of a deep-sea vessel. Visitors can take up the controls at the helm, look through periscopes, crank the propeller, test out the bunks, and explore Captain Nemo’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which is full of incredible marine specimens. The exhibition presents fantasy and facts, allowing guests to explore Verne’s imaginary world and the real-life wonders of ocean exploration. It is designed to provide a range of interactive experiences, including full-body interactions, mechanical and electro-mechanical exhibits, interactive projections, touchscreens, and more.

Essential experiences of the exhibit include:

  • Explore the lost world of Atlantis and the octopus’s garden.
  • Slide down an “escape hatch.”
  • Wander through the seaweed maze in the kelp forest.
  • Hunt for treasure in the wreck of the Spanish galleon.
