A Night of Literary Feasts

THE EVENT  Over the past 25 years, Literary Feast has brought such literary icons as Russell Banks, brothers Frank and Malachy McCourt, Art Buchwald, Joyce Carol Oates and Dave Barry to Broward County. The 26th edition promises to be as entertaining, educational and thought-provoking as its predecessors. Among the 22 featured authors this year are Dani (Still Writing) Shapiro, John (Marley & Me) Grogan, Robin (Cell) Cook and Arthur (The South Beach Diet Gluten Solution) Agatston, MD. A complete listing of authors can be viewed at www.literaryfeastonline.org.

The evening begins with a lavish cocktail reception at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa featuring all the Feast authors complete with book sales and signings. The silent auction includes a “name in a book” opportunity as well as trips, dining packages, jewelry and entertainment packages. At the end of the cocktail party, guests depart to enjoy intimate dinners with one or two authors at private homes or area upscale restaurants.

The Literary Feast weekend continues on Sunday, March 16 with LitLIVE!, a free day of author talks, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library in Davie; and on Monday, March 17 with Novel Day for Students, with authors speaking with high school students about the craft of writing.

THE CAUSE  The mission of the Broward Public Library Foundation is to enhance the collections, programs and services of the Broward County Library system beyond the means of public funding. Over its 31-year history, the Library Foundation has provided more than $20 million for such programs as computer instruction classes throughout the library system; free SAT/ACT preparation classes for up to 450 high school students annually; and a Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults. Learn more at bplfoundation.org.

TICKETS  Available for $175 per person; for an additional $150 per ticket you will be guaranteed your first or second choice of author dinners. Visit www.literaryfeastonline.org for a listing of authors and ticket information.
