Palm Beach County Food Bank Hosts Back-to-School Protein Food Drive

The Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) is hosting its back-to-school food drive through Friday. Participants can drop donations at the Food Bank’s Lake Worth Beach warehouse at 701 Boutwell Road, Suite A-2, as well as other participating locations.

“Protein-rich food is critical for child development and their mental and physical well-being,” Jamie Kendall says, the CEO of PBCFB. “It’s estimated that one-in-seven U.S. students do not receive sufficient protein in their everyday diet. It’s our job to set them up for success by providing them with the nutrients that are key to their growth, concentration, immunity and more.”

The PBCFB says the most wanted items are beans, fish, chicken, beef, peanut butter, vegetables and fruit. It is requested that items are shelf-stable and don’t contain glass packaging at the following locations:

The Palm Beach County Food Bank procures food from grocery stores, farmers, food distributors, wholesalers and other sources for almost 200 local community partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens and residential housing programs. Palm Beach County Food Bank programs reach families, children and seniors to connect those in need to available benefits and resources. Partner agencies distribute the products received, including culturally appropriate food and necessities like paper towels and diapers. This process ensures families have access to food when they need it most.

As part of its focus on ending childhood hunger, the PBCFB operates its Food 4 Kids programming in Palm Beach County Schools. Palm Beach County serves the 10th largest school district in the U.S., with more than 60 percent of school-age children eligible for free or reduced-price meals. The Food 4 Kids program is designed to help these students and their families fill nutritional gaps when they leave the classroom for the weekend or school vacations.
