Virtual Runs

Feeding South Florida. The 10th annual Outrun Hunger 5K goes from the street to homes and neighborhoods to promote Hunger Action Month, raise awareness on food insecurity and end hunger in South Florida.

The 5K raises funds for Feeding South Florida’s efforts in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties where the organization says the need for food assistance has doubled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeding South Florida provides nine meals for every $1 donated.

As part of the virtual event, participants can run or walk a 5K route while sharing photos with the hashtag #FeedingSouthFlorida.

The event, presented by JM Family Enterprises, takes place Sept. 26, 7 a.m.-5:45 p.m. Click here to register. Tickets are $30 and $20 for students. For sponsorship opportunities, contact Michele Fernandez at [email protected] or 954.518.1818, ext. 1863.

Rotary Club of Weston. The Rotary Club of Weston is getting ready to host its Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Health & Fitness Festival on Dec. 6. The festival, open to the community, features wellness and health activities taking place throughout the city of Weston in parks and businesses (to enforce social distancing). The festival also incorporates the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge for friends, families and children in Weston. Virtual participation options will be available as well.

The fun can continue at home with virtual running events. Starting Dec. 5, runners can complete a 5K, 10K, half marathon and half marathon relay through Dec. 13. Runners will receive medals and shirts. Over the past 20 years, the run has raised more than $1 million for local charities such as Jubilee Center, Honor Flight South Florida and HANDY as well as worldwide initiatives of the Rotary Foundation.

Register for the event, sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, by clicking here.
