Winterfest Cancels Boat Parade

Concerns over the coronavirus continue to impact the 2020 event calendar in the tri-county area. The latest major event to be cancelled is this year’s Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade, which was slated for Dec. 12. The organization’s board of directors pointed to COVID-19 and its “unwavering commitment to the health and safety of participants and spectators” as the reason behind its decision. In addition, all live events related to Winterfest will be canceled.

Organizers already are looking ahead to next year’s Winterfest, the 50th anniversary of the Boat Parade, which started back in 1971.

“Our team, partners and community supporters were very hopeful for the traditional holiday boat parade to continue in December,” said Lisa Scott-Founds, President and CEO of Winterfest Inc. “This was a very difficult decision, but we are being proactive and socially responsible for the health and safety of our community. That is our top priority.”

There will be a “Best of the Parade” television special produced by WSVN Channel 7, scheduled to air in December, that showcases highlights from past boat parades and looks forward to the 50th anniversary. Visit winterfestparade.com for additional details.
