Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center Hosts Back to School Drive

As some children prepare to return to in-classroom learning in over a year, the need for them to have the necessary school supplies takes extra importance during the transition. To help families facing financial burdens due to the child’s healthcare needs, the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) hosts its 2021 Back to School Supply Drive.

“Thankfully, students and teachers in Broward County Public Schools will be back in the classroom, but this also means parents and students have to transition from remote learning tools to basic school supplies,” says Ana Calderon Randazzo, Ph.D., executive director of the CDTC, a nonprofit organization serving 11,000 clients with special healthcare needs in Broward County. “We do everything in our power to help the families we serve, and that includes helping them prepare for returning to the classroom. We are so grateful to the community that helps us make preparations for the new school year a little easier for these amazing and dedicated families.”

The annual donation drive collects school supplies for students of all levels with paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, folders and notebooks the most needed items. The supplies can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the CDTC, 1401. S. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale through Aug. 11. The contributions, which can include gift cards, will be distributed on Aug. 12, with participants able to choose their individual backpacks.
