The Second Annual Brice Makris Brunch at Boca West Country Club was attended by 250 guests to benefit the Hanley Foundation’s Brice Makris Endowment Fund for lifesaving treatment scholarships and addiction prevention programs. Foundation Board Member John Makris and his wife Michelle chaired the event that honored their son, Brice, who tragically passed away two years ago at age 23 from a Fentanyl overdose.
“What a powerful and moving event,” Jan Cairnes says, CEO of Hanley Foundation. “The proceeds from this brunch will make a real difference in the lives of people suffering from substance use disorders. We could not be more grateful to all who attended and supported this cause.”
During the fundraiser, the inaugural ‘Brice Makris Community Spirit Award’ was given to Max Weinberg, longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen and bandleader for Conan O’Brien. Weinberg generously donated four band seats to a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert during the live auction.
Dave Aronberg, U.S. State Attorney for Palm Beach County, and Louie Bossi, Executive Chef/Partner of Louie Bossi’s Ristorante and Founder of Delray’s ‘Taste of Recovery’ event, served as honorary chairs. Other notable guests included Tina Polsky, Andrea Levine O’Rourke, Mark Larkin, Arlene Herson, Sharon DiPietro and Jazz Jennings.
“The Brice Makris Endowment Fund was born from Brice’s desire to be healthy, to become free of an insidious disease, and to help others gain their lives back,” John Makris says. “Now, it’s up to us to ensure his legacy of helping others will come to fruition.”
