The Hot List: 5 for February

Laura W. Bush: Florida Atlantic University welcomes the former first lady (2001 to 2009) and daughter Barbara Pierce Bush on Feb. 11 as part of the Alan B. and Charna Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency. Presidential historian Timothy Naftali will moderate this conversation at the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium at FAU’s Student Union. Tickets start at $35. (fauevents.com)

Mr. Swindle’s Traveling Peculiarium: The “scoundrel of eclectic entertainment,” B.S. Swindler, and his equally shady accomplice (Dr. Elixer) bring their tongue-in-cheek traveling medicine show and “Drink-Ory Garden” to Boca Raton for a series of shows (Feb. 16-26) under a boutique big top at Mizner Park. Expect an evening of “mind-bending variety and vaudeville-style performances” with a cast of whimsical characters. Tickets range from $50 to $90. (mrswindles.com)

Paradox Museum Miami: The first U.S. version of the museum, in the heart of Wynwood, is designed to “blow minds and challenge the senses.” Expect that to happen more than once over the course of 60 to 90 minutes during an experience with 70 interactive math, science and psychology-based exhibits. Activations include perceived movement inside the Paradox Tunnel as well as the chance to create your own concerto at the Paradox Piano. (paradoxmuseummiami.com)

Roger Daltrey: The lead singer of The Who returns to South Florida for a show (Feb. 20) at Hard Rock Live that’s certain to include several of the band’s greatest hits. Expect Daltrey to also dip into his solo career for the performance at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. His 10 studio albums include 2018’s “As Long As I Have You,” which featured The Who’s Pete Townshend playing guitar on seven tracks. (myhrl.com)

The Power of Potential: Tom D’Eri, co-founder of South Florida’s Rising Tide Car Wash (which employs individuals from the autism community), has authored this book, subtitled How a Non-Traditional Workforce Can Lead You to Run Your Business Better. The book chronicles the company’s success in creating an inclusive, productive environment—with employee retention rate five times that of its competitors.
