Dorian Devastation: How you can help

While South Florida was fortunate enough to avoid major devastation as a result of Hurricane Dorian, the island of Grand Bahama and the northern Bahamas did not weather the storm unscathed. These areas have seen mass flooding and destruction to residents’ homes as well as injuries and even deaths.

South Florida residents can show their support to our neighbors in the affected areas by donating to the following relief funds and collection efforts:

Donate supplies and support at Press & Grind Café

Press & Grind Café in Fort Lauderdale is accepting supplies donations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Tuesday, September 3rd through Friday, September 6th to support Great Abaco & Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas as the area recovers from the effects of Hurricane Dorian. Supplies needed include bottled water, clothing, toiletries, baby supplies, canned goods, can openers, batteries and first aid items.

If you overstocked items in preparation for the storm, consider donating them to this important cause.

Press & Grind is also accepting monetary donations toward their support efforts at https://www.facebook.com/donate/2351212471764069/?fundraiser.

Donate to United Way of Broward County’s Hurricane Dorian Fund

United Way of Broward County has activated a fund to help with relief, rebuilding and recovery efforts in the Bahamas and other affected areas. 100% of donations go directly to supporting response efforts.

Visit unitedwaybroward.org/donate to make a donation.

Ship supplies to Global Empowerment Mission via CBRRE

Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate is partnering with Global Empowerment Mission, a non-profit with three warehouses in southeast Florida that will accept direct donations or shipments from retailers like Amazon and Home Depot. Volunteers from Coldwell Banker Culture of Real Estate Group will be working to get these donations to the collection sites and eventually to the Bahamas and other affected areas.

For more information, visit https://www.globalempowermentmission.org.

Donate supplies to Brightline stations

Brightline stations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are now accepting donations of water, food, medicine, generators and other items from the South Florida community. Brightline recently partnered with Tropic Ocean Airways and Blue Tide Marine to get these much-needed items to the impacted regions in the Bahamas and the Abacos. The South Florida transport service will deliver donations to Tropic Ocean Airways every day to depart on planes bound for the areas in need of aid.

Visit https://www.globalempowermentmission.org/hurricane-dorian for a list of supplies needed.

Donate supplies to Palm Beach Outlets

Palm Beach Outlets announced its reopening on September 4th at 10 a.m. with the kickoff of a Bahamas Relief Supplies Drive. Guests of the outlets and local South Floridians are encouraged to donate supplies to the Customer Service desk inside the Food Pavilion to be contributed to aid efforts in the affected areas of the Bahamas. This location is asking for donations of first aid kits, cleaning supplies, box fans, flashlights, work gloves, water, tarps, tents, toiletries, wipes and more.

For more information, visit PalmBeachOutlets.com or call (561) 515-4400.

Donate supplies and support to Hope 4 Hope Town

This group of Fort Lauderdale business and community leaders has amassed a fleet of boats, planes, helicopters, private charters and barges to transport collected supplies and assistance to the Bahamas. Donations will be accepted throughout the week at The Riverside Market and The Riverside Market South in Fort Lauderdale, The Riverside Market in Plantation and Atlantic Yacht in Dania Beach. Supplies needed include tarps and tents, polyline to secure tarps, dry bedding and clothing, basic first aid and trauma supplies, personal hygiene supplies, insect repellent, water, construction gloves, chainsaws and generators. The most necessary supplies will be transported beginning Wednesday, September 4th.

This organization has also set up a GoFundMe page to collect monetary support for those suffering in the Bahamas. This campaign generated over $150,000 in the first 24 hours and has continued to grow. Visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/Hope4HopeTown to donate.

Donate to Royal Caribbean’s Relief Effort

Royal Caribbean has had a long and successful relationship with the Bahamas. To show support for one of their most popular cruise ship destinations, the company has generated a relief fund to collect donations on top of their already substantial donation of $1 million. Royal Caribbean is working with the Bahamian government and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) to ensure that the support dollars are going where they are needed most. They are also matching every dollar of donations to PADF.

Donate supplies to Freedland Harwin Valori, PL and Rotary Club of Weston

Freedland Harwin Valori, PL is partnering with the Rotary Club of Weston to provide relief to those affected by the hurricane in the Bahamas. Being that the Bahamas is part of this Rotary District, the cause is one that hits close to home for this organization. The partners plan to fly donated supplies to the affected areas as soon as airports permit. Supplies can be dropped off at Weston Hills Country Club through the end of the week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Power supplies and lights, baby supplies and personal care items are of immediate need.
