Inside the Design: Adriana Hoyos

The globally renowned interior expert offers insights into her work at Shoma Bay.

The project: Shoma Bay

Where: 1850 John F. Kennedy Causeway, North Bay Village

What: This 24-story condominium project, set for completion in 2025, promises a marriage of Art Deco and modern design; 333 high-end units; amenities including a pool overlooking Biscayne Bay, wine cellar, coffee bar and cigar lounge—as well as North Bay Village’s first-ever Publix located within the development.

About Adriana: Over the past three decades, Hoyos’ warm, sophisticated aesthetic has enriched spaces in the United States, South America, the Caribbean, France and the United Kingdom. Her impressive roster of projects includes the Vanderbilt Mansion in Fisher Island; Aqualina Cable Beach in the Bahamas; Tower 10 in Doral; and hotel interiors for Starwood, Hilton and Marriott. In addition, Hoyos has unveiled 13 furniture collections since 2003—each with a different design inspiration. Her company, headquartered in Miami (with manufacturing facilities in Quito, Ecuador), employees more than 300 people.

The spaces: Owners Lounge and Zen Garden

Why It Works

Owners Lounge: “This space has been created with the flair [and ambience] of a high-luxury home,” Hoyos says. “Furniture, luxurious fabrics, nesting tables and minimalistic accessories all come together as a contemporary yet cozy space. Gigantic chandeliers and plants bring exotic fulfillment.”

Zen Garden: “The garden was designed with organic and natural elements to promote well-being and serenity. Groups of furnishings invite the guests to lounge in privacy and comfort. The space is filled with lush, tropical landscapes within hidden areas.”

Natural Flow: “The [thoughtfully conceived] design layout of the lounge creates a cozy, comforting atmosphere in balance with its luxurious [features] and its convenient location to the outdoors.”

Entertainment Factor: “The high-quality, stylish interior of the lounge creates a level of sophistication [that’s perfect] for hosting private events. [At the same time], it adds to the home-like feeling of the atmosphere.”

Connective Thread: “The two locations work together harmoniously, promising a warm and inviting home-away-from-home feeling. The direct connection between the lounge and Zen Garden [adds to that accessible and] inviting feeling.”
