If babka is your bag, you need to try The Bakey.
The bakery and café, known for its chocolate babka, opened last month in Hallandale Beach, taking over the former Kosher Bagel Cove space, with people forming lines to snag a babka fresh from the oven.
The Bakey comes from acclaimed Israeli baker Uri Scheft, founder of Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv and co-founder of New York’s Breads Bakery before launching The Bakey in Boston in 2021.
The kosher Hallandale Beach café serves Scheft’s signature chocolate and almond babkas alongside croissants, rugelach, burekas, challah, sourdough breads and New York-style bagels – all made on premises with an “oven is always on” philosophy. The menu also includes all-day breakfast, sandwiches, salads, and coffee.
The Bakey is proving so popular that Scheft is already planning additional locations, so your next babka may be in your own backyard.
The Bakey. 668 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale Beach; bakeybabka.com. Now open and coming soon to Aventura and Fort Lauderdale.
