United Way of Broward County Hosts Annual Backpack Giveaway

As the new school year approaches, the United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED wants to ensure military and veteran families have the necessary resources to prosper in the classroom. The United Way’s annual Backpack Giveaway for Military and Veteran families occurs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 4 at Jean and David Colker Center in Fort Lauderdale via drive-thru.

Approximately 500 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed during the drive. The event is open to all Broward residents who are military veterans, active duty services members, National Guard and Reserve members. All attendees are required to register here and show proof of military services with supplies limited to a first-come, first-serve basis. Each household is limited to one backpack per child living in their home with a maximum of six backpacks per household.

Along with the United Way, the donations were made possible by The Castle Group, Easy 93.1 and community donors. Masks are required for any in-person interaction during the event.
