July 4 marks our celebration of Independence as a country for 238 years. One of our most precious rights protected by the Constitution of the United States is the Right to Vote. In preparation for a countywide primary election on Tuesday, August 26, here is important information and several reminders.
This year’s primary election is not just for party affiliated registered voters. There will be several nonpartisan circuit and county court judicial races, as well as races for the School Board. Everyone can vote in this election! Many of you will vote in primary races for Governor, Attorney General, State Representative, and other seats. The ballot in November will include several proposed State constitutional amendments. More information will be forthcoming in the months ahead.
If you have not yet registered to vote, July 28 is the last day to submit your registration form at the Supervisor of Elections office, 115 S. Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, in order to vote in the Primary Election. Forms are available at many government offices or may be downloaded at www.browardsoe.org to be mailed in. For those of you who ARE registered to vote and may have moved recently, changed your name and/or would like to change your party affiliation, please note the above deadline also. If you have questions about your voter status, call the Supervisor of Elections office at 954.357.7050.
Absentee ballots may be requested by calling 954.357.7055 or logging on to: www.browardsoe.org. If requested, absentee ballots for the Primary will likely be mailed in early August and must be received at the Elections office by August 26. If you have plans to be out of town during the Primary Election or General Election on November 4, you may need to provide an alternate address.
Early voting dates and hours for the Primary Election will be August 15 – 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Our closest early voting site will be the North Regional Library at Broward College, 1100 Coconut Creek Parkway in Coconut Creek.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Primary Election Day, August 26 and again for the General Election on November 4. If the street address on your picture ID does not match your voter registration card on Election Day, you may be sent to vote at another precinct.
