Top Takeout Picks: Olympia Flame Diner and Rusty Pelican

BROWARD COUNTY
The restaurant: Olympia Flame Diner (pictured above)
Where: 80 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach
Takeout treats: This family-owned diner and all-day-breakfast spot has been a local favorite for nearly three decades. In addition to the throwback warmth of its staff and ownership (siblings Patty Miranda and George Katsenos handle the business), the draw here always has been homespun dishes and Greek specialties from a menu that goes on for a country mile. Right now, takeout is available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the morning side, there are more than a dozen omelet options, breakfast sandwiches, and griddle favorites like pancakes and French toast. On the lunch side, think fresh salads, more than 40 burger and hot/cold sandwich plates, and a selection of Greek dishes (moussaka, gyro platter and more).
Don’t miss: Eggs Benedict at Olympia Flame (base price $11) features nearly 20 potential add-ons, including salsa, peppers, bacon, sausage, chili and countless others. For fans of Greek food, check out the spinach pie ($16), with spinach and feta cheese encased in baked phyllo.
