Miami Art. Local art history is always in the making at LnS Gallery, a multi-use art space specializing in contemporary art with a focus on Miami-based artists. Through Feb. 9, the Coconut Grove gallery presents For Those Gathered in the Wind, a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist, T. Eliott Mansa, a graduate of the Yale School of Art and CUNY Hunter College. In the exhibit, Mansa explores his mourning for those who have lost their lives to extrajudicial killings and state violence, memorializing the value of the lives lost with materials found in grassroots memorials, such as toys, teddy bears, plastic flowers and offertory candles (work featured in image above). Winter break creativity. Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) hosts MOCA’s Winter Workshops for children 6 to 13. Classes will have children create handmade books, Kawaii creatures, portraits, beaded masks and more, inspired by the museum’s exhibit. Dec. 21-23 and 28-31. See you at the yard. The Doral Yard hosts a variety of activities this month.
- Singer-songwriter and Latin Grammy nominee Raquel Sofia sings soulful pop songs infused with rock, blues, jazz, Mexican regional and salsa (Dec 19).
- During Brine Your Swine with Chef Eileen Andrade features holiday cocktail and small bites by Barbakoa by Finka. Chef Eileen leads you through a hands-on tutorial on how to brine your swine like a pro, resulting in succulent, fall-off-the-bone tender Noche Buena lechon (Dec. 22; $60).
- Gaitas at The Yard features a Venezuelan gaita ensemble performing traditional Venezuelan Christmas music (Dec. 23)
Sculpted. If you missed the unveiling of sculptures at Amerant Bank‘s Coral Gables headquarters during Art Week, you still have until February 2021 to check them out. The community bank showcases more than 40 pieces by eight artists on the lobby as well as the second, fifth and 12th floors in the exhibit (UN) BALANCES. Artists include Rafael Ranguel from Miami, Sigfredo Chacon from Venezuela, Igancio Muv from Chile, Marcus Blake from Jamaica and more. Small, private tours can be researched at [email protected].
Creative strolling. Business for the Arts of Broward’s second annual ART + STROLL virtual event may have passed but there’s still time to purchase some art. Some of the more than 100 pieces of art featured are still available on BFA’s website through Dec. 28. Sales will benefit artists and BFA programming.
