You’ve probably driven past it a thousand times, but if you’ve never actually visited Flamingo Gardens, now is the time. The nearly 100-year-old botanical gardens has some of the largest collections of orchids, cycads, heliconias and gingers in the U.S. and more than 3,000 species of rare and exotic, tropical and subtropical and native plants and trees. Its Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary is home to permanently injured or non-releasable native wildlife, including alligators, bobcats, otters, panthers, peacocks, and, of course, flamingos.
