Great Staycation Escapes, Part 4

Capt Hirams Resort

Address: 1580 U.S. Highway 1, Sebastian

The allure: This island-inspired paradise is the perfect place to kick off your flip-flops, let your hair down, and enjoy a relaxing Old Florida escape along the shores of the Indian River. Live music and cold cocktails at the tiki-style Sandbar set a daily tone, but there’s plenty more to explore here—like fishing charters at Capt Hirams Marina; sightseeing trips on the River King, a 45-foot pontoon boat; and kayak and paddleboard rentals. Blackfins, featuring a menu filled with raw bar and seafood offerings, is a local riverfront favorite. Plus, there are four places to keep your spirits high—including Scoops Bar (for top-shelf liquors) and Bimini Beach (for nights around the fire pit).

Isn’t that special: The party is just getting started this summer at Capt Hirams. The Sunday Reggae Series rolls on through Aug. 29, with live performances at the Sandbar open to the public. The resort has attached a VIP deal to the musical mix, with a hotel room on Sunday night, two brews and two meals from the outdoor grill—starting at only $89 for a standard room. On the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, through September, Capt Hirams presents two-hour wine/brew cruises (5 to 7 p.m.) along the Indian River. Expect local breweries to join the festivities, with insights into the various samplings. In addition, the resort is giving Florida residents 20-percent off all summer rates, no matter the room.

Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach

Address: 551 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale

The allure: The beachfront resort’s 20,000-square-foot Sky Deck—home to Spinnaker Pool Grill, fun outdoor games, and a buzzworthy pool scene—steals the spotlight here for obvious reasons. But there’s plenty more to the all-suite property that’s built for lengthy stays. Its two- and three-bedroom residences with kitchens (the latter encompasses 1,700 square feet) can comfortably sleep six. There’s a world-class Japanese/Korean fusion restaurant on-site, Takato, with executive chef Taek Lee at the helm (one of four eateries). Atlas, with its chic, nautical vibe, is one of the more stylish lobby bars in town. And there’s a full-service spa and 24-hour fitness center.

Isn’t that special: In addition to a variety of discounted offers on its website, Conrad is emphasizing the family this summer—especially new parents. Among the complimentary amenities for clients with infants and toddlers: baby camera/monitor, pack-and-play, sound machine, nursing pillow, bottle warmer, high chair and baby bath products.
